Slitterhead Is Now Accepting Pre-Orders Ahead Of November 8 Release

Slitterhead was part of the lineup for the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2024 broadcast. The Bokeh Game Studio’s creation is available for pre-order starting today—and the studio has promised that it will be an unforgettable experience.

“Slitterhead is set in the fictional city of Kowlong in East Asia in the early ‘90s,” said the CEO and Creator of Slitterhead Keiichiro Toyama. “The city is rougher than most modern cities.”

“Within the streets of this chaotic city, a foreign creature that preys on humans appears. The story unfolds from the perspective of the city people who journey to fight against the threat.”

The threat that Yoyama talked about is Slitterhead. The creatures are disguised as ordinary humans. Playing as an enigmatic entity called Hyoki with no memory of its origin, your primary role will be to get rid of the Slitterheads in the city.

What makes Slitterhead unique in the video game world?

Unlike your regular video games, in which the protagonist has a defined appearance, Hyoki doesn’t. It takes the form of the humans it possesses and controls their bodies. This unique feature is likely what will draw players to experience Slitterhead.

“The core mechanics of this game in one word is ‘possession’,” said Toyama. “I don’t think this has been done before, but the main character is a spiritual life form without a physical body.”

“It can only act once it borrows the body of a human. And by taking advantage of this feature, you change hosts one after another, resulting in such actions as moving through the city at high speed or at times, abandoning the host’s body for your own survival. The system is a bit unconventional compared to games we’ve seen up until now.

“Things like this require a change in your way of thinking. Even during my test plays, at first, I was planning my movement in a conventional way, but I quickly realized that, ‘Oh, this game can be so different’, and I picked up on the different ways of playing. I was interested to see a natural change in my way of thinking.”

The other place we have seen something like this is in the Korean Netflix movie series called Parasyte: The Grey where unidentified parasites take over the human brain and make them super strong. It will be interesting to see how Bokeh Game Studio will pull this off.

The player’s ability to switch bodies means Bokeh also got the chance to alter the playstyle which can change depending on the host that the parasite has possessed. This should be another interesting feature of Slitterhead.
