Celebrities lashing out at video game developers or publishers for one flaw or another is not new. A few months ago, it was Whoopi Goldberg calling out Blizzard for not making Diablo IV playable on macOS. This time, it is Snoop Dogg cussing EA and Microsoft for downtime in Madden NFL 24.

Madden NFL 24, the most pre-ordered sports game in July, was finally available for early access on 15 August 2023 (three days before the worldwide release). Apparently, it appeared Snoop Dogg—who is a die-hard fan of Madden NFL—was unable to access the game two hours after it was released due to a technical glitch, and he would not take it.

The multiple Grammy award-winning musician and actor took to Instagram to express his disappointment at EA and Microsoft, using the unkindest and profanity-filled rants.

“Come on mehn, that’s two hours since the game came out. Do I need to go to Instagram and curse you m*therf**kers out or is y’all going to fix this sh*t? I’m being nice and talking to you directly. I will go to Instagram and cuss you m*therf**kers out like my friends want me to do right now? I’m trying to be cordial. Get this sh*t f**king fix man. What the f**k is y’all doing?”

It didn’t end with the video rant. The video was also accompanied by the caption “@eamaddennfl 🤷🏾‍♂️🚨🚨 w. T. F. Are y’all doing we been waiting 2 hours to play the homies @microsoft 🤬🤬😡😡”

The issue with Madden NFL 24 didn’t last long

It appears the glitch didn’t take long to be resolved. Dogg posted another video an hour later that shows the game was running well and he sounded more playful this time and even did a commentary in a game between New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. The second video was posted with the caption, “Maddens workin. 😂😂🐾🐾👏🏿🔥🔥”

According to reports, the issue Snoop Dogg encountered was from the server. Video game server downtimes are often experienced when the player traffic is higher than the server can handle. It is hard to correctly guess the number of gamers that will tune in to a game on launch day—and publishers sometimes under-prepare.

Most times, publishers or platforms use beta tests and early access to carry out stress tests on their servers or to control the game traffic to avoid server downtimes or glitches like the one Snoop Dogg experienced.

In addition to the difficulty some players encountered with joining early access, some players also reportedly missed bonuses when they eventually got in. Others also complained about the soundtrack of Madden NFL 24 missing important artists like Kanye West.

Also, the digital avatar of some players like Darren Waller, the New York Giants tight end, was less than desirable. Regardless of the pockets of complaints, Madden NFL 24 received several upgrades in performance and gameplay. Gamers now have more tackling and blocking options compared to previous versions of the game.

The Franchise Mode—which allows players to build their own league or franchise—got a facelift. Minigames made a return to the mode. Also, EA added a series of Commissioner’s Tools which gives gamers the opportunity to customize their players how they want.

Two sub-modes were added to Superstar mode namely the Showdown (a 3v3 competition) and League (a solo career mode). These sub-modes and various other features of the game are only available on 9th-gen consoles and on PCs.

It is not a secret that Snoop Dogg is a die-hard fan of Madden NFL. In 2021, it was reported that he streams on Twitch—and gets a healthy number of viewers numbering between 5,000 and 48,000 each time he goes live.

However, unknown to the rapper, he was usually mute each time he streamed. Although his viewers tried to tell him, it is hard to tell why he never did anything about it. Also, his latest outburst from Madden NFL 24 server downtime is not the first time that Snoop Dogg is raging about the franchise.

In 2021, Snoop Dogg ragequitted Madden NFL 21 after playing for just 15 minutes on Twitch—when another player trashed him. However, he forgot to turn off the stream after turning off his Xbox and it ran for another 7 hours.
