Sony Confirms State Of Play, Will Last 40 Minutes And Feature Stellar Blade

It was earlier rumored that Sony was planning a State of Play on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Sony’s head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst has now confirmed the rumors in a new publication on the PlayStation Blog.

“Hi everyone, 2024 has just begun and it’s time for our very first state of Play!” Hulst began. “The broadcast will be over 40 minutes long, and feature guest appearances from some of the most talented minds in gaming. Among many other updates, we’ll feature extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two great games coming to PS5 this year.”

According to Hulst, 15+ games have been lined up for the first 2024 State of Play. Included on the roster are titles coming to PS VR2 this year and beyond. In other words, some of the titles that will be showcased at State of Play may be announcements of upcoming games—although we expect to see new gameplay, especially for Stellar Blade.

The time for the show will be 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 10 pm GMT. PlayStation’s State of Play will be broadcast through multiple channels including YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok. While Sony welcomes co-streamers, they warned that some of the games that would be showcased may include copyrighted content.

Therefore, Sony said “if you’re planning to save this broadcast as a VOD to create recap videos, or to repost clips or segments from the show, we advise omitting any copyrighted music.”

XboxEra Podcast co-host, King Gronk Nick, posted a cryptic message on Sunday, January 28, 2024, suggesting that the next State of Play could be coming this week. In addition to that, the message also contained the list of titles that will likely be announced/showcased.

“On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and Kojima will fulfill his dream,” Nick wrote on X. “Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it.”

When asked why Stellar Blade was not on the rumored games that would feature in the State of Play, Nick said that there is a chance that the list he put out “isn’t 100% complete”. However, he said, “it wasn’t part of what I received”.

Stellar Blade was earlier scheduled for a 2023 release. However, towards the end of the year, the game was delayed until 2024. No specific date has been given. Several industry insiders, game commentators, and enthusiasts jumped into the comment section of Nick’s post to decrypt the games he codded into his tweet.

Rand al Thor 19, a YouTube content creator and host of the Xbox Two Podcast did the most perfect job in decrypting Nick’s post. His comment contained a list of all the games as follows:

  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Sonic Generations Remaster
  • Silent Hill 2
  • New Metro game
  • Judas

If there is any reason to take the State of Play rumor seriously, it is because PlayStation and Xbox are usually neck-and-neck in competition. After Xbox Developer Direct on January 18, 2024, PlayStations’ response would most likely be looming around the corner.

A comment we found rather interesting came from an X user with the handle @ThiccTeh who claimed Nick stole the list from Nate The Hate. “This isn’t your leak; you stole it from Nate The Hate or someone else in the Discord and trying to claim it as your own,” wrote @ThiccTeh. “Disgustingly low, even for you.”
