The ability to use the PS VR2 headset on Steam is one feature that PlayStation fans are eager to have. Sony will make that happen on August 6. Earlier this year, the company had to pause the production of the headset due to a mounting backlog of unsold products.
“Enjoy VR games and apps on Steam with PlayStation VR2!” read the official app description on Steam. “Install PS VR2 App to use PS VR2 on your PC, set up your PS VR devices, and keep the firmware for PS VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers up to date.”

Players eager to start using PS VR2 headsets on Steam will need a PC adapter. For the best experience, gamers are required to use the headset on a system with Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or later and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or later graphics card. The steps to enjoying PS VR games and apps on Steam using PS VR2 headset are as follows:
- Set up your PlayStation VR2 on your PC.
- Update the firmware for your PlayStation VR2 headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers.
- Adjust settings for your PlayStation VR2 from the SteamVR dashboard, including setting your play area and screen brightness.
“To play VR games and apps on Steam with PlayStation VR2, PlayStation VR2 App needs to be installed on your PC,” Sony clarified on the app’s listing page on Steam. “Keep the app installed even after initial setup is complete.
The app will set players back by $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 and will be available for purchase through select retail stores and direct.playstation.com. Also, players will need to purchase a DisplayPort 1.4 compatible cable separately.
What players will sacrifice when using PS VR2 on Steam
While the idea of using PS VR2 on PC via Steam may sound interesting, there are a few sacrifices that players should be prepared to make—at least for now—if they decide to go through this route. Sony mentioned that features like HDR, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and eye tracking will not be available for PC players.

Back in October last year, Eric Lempel, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president and head of global marketing said the PS VR was yet to reach its full potential.
“The VR category is important to us,” Lempel said. “It’s a category that can help us with innovation. It’s never going to be the only way people play games, but I’m happy that we’re in it. There are great experiences to be had and consumers really like it. But it’s a nascent business for us.”
