There is a growing wave of movies adapted from video games and Split Fiction may be added to that list. It is claimed that early preparations are already in place for a film adaptation of the game which launched to critical acclaim on March 6.

Split Fiction Mio and Zoe

Split Fiction is the latest release from Hazelight Studios and is already up to a flying start. The game sold 1 million copies in 48 hours and is currently the highest-rated release of 2025 to date on Metacritic.

Split Fiction is a co-op sci-fi fantasy that follows the story of two writers Mio and Zoe who are trapped in a surreal simulation of their stories. They must work together to overcome the challenges while also learning about each other’s unique personalities.

In recent years, there has been a flurry of video game adaptations into movies or TV series—and a couple of them have been huge successes including The Last of Us and Super Mario Bros. Movie. Perhaps, the early successes of Split Fiction have been enough to suggest to movie makers that it would appeal to cinema audiences.

In a recent report emerging from the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Variety said multiple sources informed them that the media company Story Kitchen is currently in the process of compiling a cast, writers, and director for Split Fiction adaptation.

It was claimed that Story Kitchen is offering the teams as a “package” and bids are “coming in from multiple top Hollywood studios” for the rights to the movie. There are no current details on whether the adaptation will be animated or live-action.

This is not the first Hazelight game to attract interest from Hollywood. Back in 2022, It Takes Two received several movie adaptation interests. To this day, nothing has been heard about it. Earlier this month in an interview, Hazelight founder Josef Fares said he didn’t care anymore about the movie adaptation.
