Steam Deck owners looking forward to the Split Fiction launch can be assured of the best performance because the game is now Steam Deck verified. Hazelight Studios made the announcement today February 27, 2025.
“Split Fiction is Steam Deck Verified in time for launch on March 6th!” the studio announced on X. “Of course, it will also be Steam Native – you can invite and play with your friends directly through Steam with no EA App required.”

Split Fiction director Josef Fares confirmed that the game’s budget was about twice that of It Takes Two during an interview on MinnMax. Fares was asked where the increased budget went and he said, “Look at the game man, are you kidding me, look at the game!”
Although it had a larger budget, Split Fiction took around the same time to make as It Takes Two. Fares confirmed this when he was asked about the development length of the game. “Three and a half is even better, three to four years is perfect,” he said.
Fares declined to respond when asked if Split Fiction will support Switch 2. While Hazelight is known for making games in the co-op genre, Fares teased that may change in the future.
“Hazelight is all about co-op and will always be in our DNA, but the first game, Brothers, is single-player and who knows in the future what will happen.”
For those who may not be familiar with Hazelight’s games, it has a friend pass feature where one person can purchase the game and invite a friend to play together. This feature has also been confirmed for Split Fiction.

Split Fiction will cost $49.99 on all platforms which is $10 higher than the price of It Takes Two. Perhaps, this is also a reflection of the higher production budget while also signifying the shorter length of the game.
