Hazelight Studios just announced that their latest co-op release, Split Fiction, sold over 1 million copies within 48 hours of its availability. The game was released on March 6, 2025, which means the numbers will likely be significantly above that by now.
“Split Fiction sold 1 Million copies in its first 48 hours!!!” the developer announced on their social media pages. “The love you all show for our game is overwhelming! Everyone here at Hazelight are beyond happy – and we can’t stop enjoying your amazing reaction!”

It is still a long shot before Split Fiction can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its immediate predecessor It Takes Two which has now sold over 23 million copies, according to Paul Tassi of Forbes.
Virtually all reputable video game media gave Split Fiction a perfect score in their rating. Consequently, the game has amassed an average Metascore of 92 on PC and Xbox Series X and 91 on PS5.
Split Fiction is EA’s first game in over a decade to get an over 90 average score on Metacritic. The numbers so far have put the game in a great spot of being a Game of the Year contender. The studio’s head and game director Josef Fares teased that the only reason Split Fiction would not win the coveted award is if GTA 6 comes out.
Soon after its launch, the game attracted 259,003 concurrent players on Steam. At the time of writing, there were 73,661 active players. In comparison, It Takes Two peaked at around 71,000 concurrent players.

Split Fiction is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC. In an interview Fares was asked if the game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2. He declined to respond but said nothing was impossible.
