It is heartbreaking how PS4 and Xbox One gamers suddenly stopped getting access to newer title releases—a harsh way to tell them to ditch their console and go for the ‘next-gen’ console. Well, if you are one of Xbox One or PS4 gamers and a Star Wars franchise fan, it will interest you to know that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The news was shared by Andrew Wilson, EA CEO during the Q1 2024 earnings call on Tuesday 1 August 2023. Although Wilson confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will come to the previous-gen consoles, he did not confirm how soon that will happen.
“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is pure blockbuster entertainment, rooted in a timeless, culture-defining IP,” Wilson said during the call. “Our team at Respawn proudly launched this title to critical acclaim and commercial success. Millions of players have already engaged with the game, making this one of the biggest events in the Star Wars galaxy this year.”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was first released on 28 April 2023 on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. As of 1 May 2023, the game has already sold over a million units. Its solid performance has earned it the 4th best-selling video game title to date in 2023.
It has only been outperformed by Hogwarts Legacy (which remains the frontrunner), Modern Warfare 2, and Resident Evil 4 remake. Interestingly, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s sales exceeded that of Fallen Order by about 30%.
“Thanks to the strength of this legendary franchise and community demand, our development team has committed to bringing this Jedi experience to PS4 and Xbox One,” Wilson said. “Over the coming year, we will harness the community’s passion and capitalize on key Star Wars franchise moments to drive continued engagement for this incredible game.”
EA had record-breaking Q1 earnings and the company said it was largely due to the Star Wars franchise and the sustained success of FIFA23.

The job listing was for the position of a Principal Game Writer and also mentioned that development was already ongoing on the next game. See the exact words of the job description below.

With the success of Star Wars Jedi, it was only natural for Respawn and EA to keep it going. While it is certain that the next Star Wars Jedi is inevitable, there is no defined timeline regards to when it will be in the hands of gamers.

Star Wars Jedi had a rocky start. Gamers had to download a large day-one patch to make the game playable on consoles. The issue with PC performance persisted and Respawn had to put out a statement.
“While there is no single, comprehensive solution for PC performance, the team has been working on fixes we believe will improve performance across a spectrum of configurations. We are committed to fixing these issues as soon as possible, but each patch requires significant testing to ensure we don’t introduce new problems.”

Hopefully, the studio is no longer under pressure and will take its time to perfect its releases on PS4 and Xbox One to make sure they are not weighed down by the same bugs the game’s release on PC and next-gen consoles encountered.
