Fans of the Payday franchise had high expectations for the third installment in the series. However, that excitement soon turned to despair after the launch of the game. Payday 3 experienced major server flaws that made it difficult for many people to play the game. Although the server issue has since been addressed, players have been frustrated about the lack of updates for the game.
Starbreeze planned for an update in early October. However, the studio later announced that it would be delayed because it found critical errors with its update pipeline that needed urgent attention to avoid a situation where the progress of players would be wiped out.
“Hello Heisters!” Starbreeze began its patch note. “The first patch for Payday 3 is finally here, we’re looking at a massive amount of fixes to make your heisting a smoother experience. We’ve all waited for long enough, so we’ll cut the speech here and instead, patch notes!”

The Payday 3 patch covered everything from UI fixes to technical, audio, visuals, and other known issues. The size of the patch is 2.0GB. In total, I counted over 130 fixes. Starbreeze said the purpose of the Payday 3 Patch 1.0.1 was to “address minor fixes”.
“After some instability, we’re finally up and running as things should be!” the studio added. “Heisters heisting, civilians screaming, and cops floundering! We’ve got a lot more cooking, keep letting us know when you find bugs, and sending us your suggestions!”
Starbreeze earlier issued an apology for the lack of an update
Last week, Starbreeze apologized for the lack of a Payday 3 patch. Although the studio had earlier promised over 200 quality-of-life improvements for all platforms, I counted just over 130.

“Despite our silence, we want to assure you all that the team is still working on our main priority, which is to get the patch we promised out to you, and to make sure our patching process allows us to continue publishing them at a steady cadence in the future,” Starbreeze said last week.
In the October ending update, Starbreeze also revealed that it may be in the position to start adding free content to Payday 3 before the close of 2023.
“We see your frustration and anger, and we can assure you this is not a situation we want to be in. The team is working hard on a game that will be supported for years to come and making Payday 3 the new criminal dawn!”

Payday 3 DLC roadmap
In early September, Starbreeze and Deep Silver unveiled new Payday 3 playable DLC plans. It showed that the game will get four add-on packs in the game’s first year. The first downloadable content titled Syntax Error will arrive in winter 2023.
In the Spring of 2024, Boys in Blue will follow, then The Land of the Free in the summer, and finally Fear and Greed in the fall of 2024. The roadmap shared by the studio also revealed that players will get tons of additional content after release including “playable characters, new enemies, weapons, Unreal Engine 5 upgrades, cosmetics, quality of life improvements, new features, and much more”.

Payday 3 is one of the highly anticipated sequels in 2023. This year has seen lots of sequels, remakes, and remasters. Payday 3 was released on September 21 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Epic Games Store, Steam, and PC Game Pass.
However, the server problem and other performance issues prevented the game from reaching its full potential. On Metacritic, Payday 3 had an average rating of 67 on PC, 65 on Xbox, and 60 on PS5. Hopefully, the Payday 3 patch released by Starbreeze will improve the performance of the game as well as player perception.
