The life sim RPG allows players to step into the shoes of a character who inherits the dilapidated farm of their deceased grandfather in a place called Stardew Valley.

“Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won’t be easy,” read the game’s description.

The game now has a multiplayer update across PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox, PS4, and Switch. The sales record of Stardew Valley is an incredible milestone because it was a solo effort developed over a four-year period.

Barone taught himself the necessary skills needed to bring the game to players including music, art, design, and programming. The effort paid off. Just two months after its release, the game sold 1 million copies.

Since its release, the game has received five major updates. The first added new farm maps, marriage options, and content while the second expanded the supported language. From the fourth update, Barone formed a small team to help with adding new content. Every other update to date has added new content to the game.

Stardew Valley has interesting features including giving players the chance to create their dream farm from the ground up on one of the five map layouts according to their playstyle. There are hundreds of character customization options to choose from too. Check out all the features here.
