Scheduled for launch on February 2, 2024, the newly released insider video took a deep dive into the game’s main story and traversal mechanics. It also gave fans a peek into the vastness of Metropolis which according to Darius Sadeghian, the studio director at Rocksteady Studios, is “twice the size of Gotham City in Arkham Knight”.

“It’s big, it’s loud, it’s a battlefield,” Sadeghian explained. “It’s a place built for verticality, mobility, the unique fusion of enhanced traversal, gunplay, and melee weapons, creating a supervillain empowerment that we think is a totally original gameplay experience.”

In most superhero games, the best man for the job is selected. However, in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League the supervillains were the worst for the job but were picked because they were the only ones available for the job, explained Jack Hackett, the studio’s production manager.

In the game’s main story, gamers can play as one of the members of Suicide Squad including Harley Quin, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark. The supervillains are tasked with the almost impossible task of killing the Justice League members to save the Earth.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is described as a “genre-bending, third-person, action-adventure shooter”. It will be launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can start playing the game from January 30, 2024.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was showcased back in February during the PlayStation State of Play livestream. At that time, the game had a May 26 release date. However, the showcase was followed by a backlash from players who were not impressed by the gameplay.

Soon after, rumors started emerging that Rocksteady may delay the game. Although fans were still eager to dive into the world of Metropolis, that was never to be as the studio announced the delay barely a month before the release date.

While many believed that the pushback was to give Rocksteady time to revamp the game, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said the nine-month delay would not be enough for any major changes to the gameplay model—and that the development staff were informed that the delay was not from the backlash from the State of Play showcase. According to Schreier, the delay was likely for standard polish.

According to Polygon, citing the game’s FAQ website, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will require players to always be online—a decision that doesn’t sit well with most gaming communities. It is important to mention that this reason was partly responsible for Payday 3’s poor performance because the pairing system didn’t work as planned.

Over the coming months and leading up to the game’s launch, Rocksteady has promised to present players with a deeper look at the game. Also, the studio promised to continue supporting the game post-launch with fresh content. Warner Bros. Games has also revealed details of the two editions of the game.
