Nintendo fans have eagerly anticipated news from Switch successor. However, it appears their wait is over. In the company’s recent financial results, the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the Nintendo Switch successor will be announced in the current fiscal year ending March 2025.
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” the president said. “It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”
“We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

In the company’s financial result for the year ended March 31, 2024, which was published on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Nintendo confirmed that it sold 15.7 million consoles, slightly edging the forecasted 15.5 million. The figure pushes up Nintendo Switch’s lifetime sales to date to 141.32 million.
In terms of guidance, the company forecasts that its console sales will fall by 14% to 13.5 million in the current fiscal year ending March 2025. Also, it expects net profit to fall by 38.9%. If the Switch hits that target, it would be touching distance from beating the 160 million record set by PlayStation 2. Also, it would almost be at par in sales with the Nintendo DS (154 million).

Nintendo Switch is now in its seventh year on the market, and its sales continue to marvel analysts who expect that by now the numbers should be on a steep decline. The bulk of the switch sales was attributed to the rise in the demand for the OLED Model. It is expected that Nintendo will launch its Switch successor early next year.
In the financial report, the company also gave an update on the Nintendo Museum, which is rising in Uji City, Kyoto, Japan. According to the company, the building has been completed and the opening will happen sometime in Fall 2024. They promise to create more contact points with consumers “by promoting various initiatives that utilize Nintendo IP in a wide range of fields”.
