Epic Games has been on a suing spree. It has lost some and won others. Its latest winning was against Google. The jury unanimously voted in favor of Epic Games saying that Google violated antitrust policy through its billing system in Play Store and described it as an illegal monopoly.
New updates to Fortnite have added age ratings to every experience in the game. Consequently, some outfits can no longer be used for experiences rated “Everyone” or “Everyone 10 Plus”.
Epic Games appears to have won back the hearts of players through its recently launched Fortnite OG event. The event which was launched on Friday, November 3, 2023, will run until December 2, 2023.
Last month Epic announced that it would raise the price of Fortnite V-Bucks and some real-money content packs on October 27, 2023. The upward price review of about 12.5% is expected to take effect in some countries later today.
The last few months have seen massive layoffs in the gaming industry. The latest studio to let go of game developers is Naughty Dog, the studio that brought Uncharted and The Last of Us to life.
Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, agreed to $245 million in customer refunds to settle a lawsuit last year. Those eligible for the refunds include those charged for in-game currency that they didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.
Loot boxes are not only found in consoles. They are increasingly becoming a feature in mobile games too. Android and iOS users are increasingly getting games with gambling-style mechanics like slot machines.
Epic Games outlined a couple of grievances against Apple and one of them has to do with the commission Apple charges developers for using its App Store.
