Since the announcement of The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered, fans have been eager to know more about the Lost Levels that will feature in the remastered version of the multiple award-winning game. The last week’s announcement mentioned that the game will have a roguelike survival mode called “No Return” and “Lost Levels”.
Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is scheduled for January 19, 2023, launch. It already has a product page on the PlayStation website and more details of the Lost Levels can be gleaned from the page.
“Lost Levels let you explore early-development versions of three new levels not seen in the original The Last of Us Part 2: Sewers, Jackson Party, and Boar,” Sony wrote. “Enjoy hours of new developer commentary about The Last of Us Part 2 development as you experience the game.”
Fans have already started analyzing the Lost Levels. Many believe that the “Boar” level will see Ellie hunting the boar she mentions in her journal in the original game. However, the Lost Level that has generated the most controversy is “Sewers”.
The Last of Us Part 2 fans are apprehensive about the Sewers
The mention of sewers always sends a chill down the spine of gamers, especially those who are claustrophobic. One of the biggest problems with sewers is that there is usually no place to hide when a horde of zombies are after you. Also, sewers are dark and drab and cause emotions to spike. There is nothing really exciting about them.
The Last of Us Part 2 subreddit already has lots of fan theories on why the lost levels were removed from the original game.
“I get why they removed it for sure,” chrchcmp wrote. “That whole section is so intense. Right after the scars you’re at the hospital, and it’s just a loot.”
Several other Redditors also shared their experience of how scared they were during the sewer encounter. However, it’s important to mention that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is not going to be a director’s cut of the game. Perhaps, players may one day get that too.
John Walker of Kotatu explained that the lost levels will be “early development versions” that were not included in the game that players can select and experience from the main menu rather than being part of the main game. Walker said it would be “a chance to see what almost was”.
Other modes that will feature in TLOU2 Remastered
Apart from the Lost Levels, fans of the franchise are also ecstatic about the new modes coming to the game, particularly No Return. This mode will allow players to step into the shoes of different characters. What is even more interesting is that some of these characters are playable for the first time in the history of the franchise.
“Survive as long as you can in each run as you choose your path through a series of randomized encounters featuring different foes and memorable locations from throughout The Last of Us Part 2, all culminating in tense boss battles,” the product page explained.
Some of the new playable characters are Dina, Jesse, Lev, and Tommy. However, there will be more. Each of the characters will have a unique trait that will bring different playstyles into each encounter. As you progress through the mode, you will unlock skins for them. It may take a while to find a character that fits your playstyle. Therefore, don’t be afraid to experiment with different players.
Those who already own the game can upgrade to the Remastered version for $10. However, what I found worrying is that players who bought the PS4 disc will need to slot it into their PS5 every time they want to play. What then happens to those who bought the PS5 digital edition?
