Remember Ubisoft’s Project U which reportedly suffered a reboot in 2024 after spending five years in development? The intro cinematic has surfaced online. The video was shared on YouTube by popular leaker Shaun Weber.
Project U was internally known as ‘Pathfinder’ and was supposed to be a new entry in the PvPvE genre. It was officially announced back in September 2022 and promoted as a “new kind of session-based cooperative shooter”.

Not much was heard about the game afterward, except for the recent video leak. Undisclosed sources revealed to Insider Gaming that Project U faced constant pushbacks and delays because of concerns relating to its replayability.
Delays and pushbacks also meant that the development budget continued to balloon beyond the initial plan. Ubisoft eventually paused development after five years when it was evident that the developers hadn’t found a way around the replayability concerns.
However, it may seem as though Ubisoft still has faith in Project U because instead of an outright cancellation the title was reverted to an internal incubation team. The team has referenced Helldivers 2 as a sign that PvE games can still be successful in today’s gaming industry.
It is still unclear if Ubisoft will push through with Project U or whether they will eventually permanently pull the plug at some point. However, watching the nearly two-and-a-half-minute cinematic intro play out was kind of satisfying.
According to the leaked footage, Project U was supposed to be centered on an alien invasion. The mecha-aliens had the mission of taking over every life form or machiform all life forms. The soldiers sent to defeat the aliens fell quickly, except one. That lone survivor became immune and eventually led a team of resistance to defeat the aliens.
Judging from the leaked cinematic intro, is Project U the kind of game you would love Ubisoft to see all the way to launch? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.
