On May 24, the roughly one-minute trailer of Undawn surfaced and was widely shared by different media. The video shared by ONE Media already has over 1.2 million views at the time of writing this post. In Undawn, players will be tasked with surviving a post-apocalyptic open world and fighting off different threats.
The action survival role-playing game is being developed by LightSpeed Studios and distributed by Level Infinite, a video game brand that focuses on mobile and PC titles from Chinese gaming giant Tencent. This is the same studio behind PUGB Mobile.
The first time I watched Undawn trailer, I actually thought it was another I Am Legend movie. I thought the uploader messed up the title until the name popped up in the trailer again.
What was even more uncanny was that the protagonist in both Undawn and I Am Legend is Will Smith. Also, the desolate world and Smith’s costume were almost identical in both.

Growing up, Will Smith was one of the movie stars that I really admired. From “Independence Day” to “Wild Wild West” and “Men In Black”, he made action movies cool with his funny remarks and comic relief.
Although he has lost that position in my heart to Kelvin Hart, I still have a lot of respect and admiration for him which is why Undawn is already on top of my list of must-play video games when it releases globally on June 15.
What kind of game is Undawn?
In Undawn, Will Smith plays the role of Trey Jones and it will mark the video game debut of the Hollywood superstar. The story of Undawn can be read from the official game description which I have highlighted below.
“In the post-apocalyptic world of Undawn, survivors have split into different factions each with their own rules of survival. As a member of the storied Raven Squad, players will face off against members of the Clowns, Eagles, Night Owls, and Reivers for territory, and make it through some of the darkest nights until the next sunrise.
To protect their homes, allies, and what’s left of humanity, these survivors will need to utilize a wide variety of weapons and armor. Beyond the standard weapons, players can also use tactical gear including melee weapons, drones, decoy bombs, auto-turrets, and more to level the playing field.”
Undawn
From what I pieced together, Undawn is an open-world survival game where players can gather resources, team up with other players, and build bases to survive the world and the horrific bloodthirsty creatures that now roam free.
Pre-order and share events are currently ongoing
Players are currently allowed to pre-register for early access to the game which will also give them a chance to share in various rewards including cosmetics, coins, and other valuables. The size of the reward will continue to increase depending on the number of players that pre-registers.

At the time of writing this post, it shows that over 2.5 million players have pre-registered for the game. The grand reward will be shared if the game gets 4 million pre-registrations.
There is also a Share Event where players can click the Share Now button to share the details about the game on their Twitter handle. Every player that does this will get a limited-edition Scarlet R700 firearm sin. To participate in the reward, you need to follow two simple rules;
- Click on the ‘Share Now’ button to share the event details and Pack code with your friends on Twitter.
- Once the game releases, you can redeem the limited-edition Scarlet R700 firearm skin using the code provided.
Every account can have a maximum of 1 redemption. The code will be valid for 1 month from June 15, meaning it will expire around July 14 if not redeemed. In April, there was a closed beta test. The game will be released on Windows, iOS, and Android.
I expected Undawn to launch on a game console
While I was excited after watching the trailer of Undawn, that excitement vaporized when I saw that Undawn will not be available on either PlayStation or Xbox or Nintendo Switch. While this is in no way talking down on Android and iOS, no serious gamer uses their phones to play.
I want to remain optimistic that the developers will eventually bring the game to one or more consoles. Undawn has suddenly made me realize how good I Am Legend would have been if it got a video game adaptation of the movie.
Are you anticipating the June 15 release of Undawn or would you have preferred it to have a console version? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.
