This year’s World Video Game Hall Of Fame will be the 10th class
This year’s World Video Game Hall will also mark the 10 years since the beginning of the recognition. In a statement, Jon-Paul C. Dyson, The Strong’s International Center for the History of Electronic Games director said there are a lot of deserving games on the list.
“Even 10 years in, there’s no shortage of deserving contenders that have had enormous influence on pop culture or the game industry itself,” said Dyson in a statement.
“These games span decades. Asteroids is an icon of the late 70s arcade. Myst showed the potential of CD-ROM technology in the 90s. Neopets became a staple of browser-based, free games as we entered the 2000s. And Guitar Hero, which is less than 20 years old, has already proven its staying power.”
The Strong Museum preserves the memories of Margaret Woodbury Strong who was born into a wealthy family of collectors. Margaret grew up to be a collector too, and the majority of her collections were related to play.

As her collection grew, she started to think of her collections as a museum. In 1968, she obtained a provisional charter from the New York State Board of Regents for the “Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum of Fascination”.
After her death at 72, Margaret left her collections and most of her financial resources for a museum, according to her will. Thirteen years later, the Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum opened to the public at One Manhattan Square in downtown Rochester.
Two decades later, the museum grew tremendously in facilities, collections, and resources. Now known as The Strong, the museum occupies over 285,000 square feet and serves global audiences both on-site and online.
