Last week Xbox announced that Developer Direct will return on January 23. The show is scheduled to be held virtually across the publisher’s YouTube channels at 10 am PT/1 pm ET/6 pm GMT. Three games were outlined for the show including a fourth mystery game.
“Presented by the game creators themselves, Developer Direct offers an in-depth look at upcoming titles, how they’re being created, and who’s creating them,” wrote Xbox Editor-in-Chief, Joe Skrebels.

“We’ll visit Compulsion Games in Montreal, Canada to learn more about South of Midnight, head to Montpellier, France to see Sandfall Interactive for a look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, stop by the legendary id Studios in Richardson, Texas to check in on DOOM: The Dark Ages, and visit a surprise location to see another studio’s brand new game.”
A recent report by Windows Central claimed the mystery game will be a new entry in an iconic Japanese game series. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Windows Central claimed their “source indicate that it is a new entry in a legendary Japanese IP which has decades of history, and should make a lot of fans happy”.
“Indeed, Microsoft has won some strong support from the region lately from studios like Square Enix for Final Fantasy, HoYoverse for Genshin Impact, and Sega/Atlus for Persona, and we suspect this new game will help further that trend.”
DOOM: The Dark Ages is being developed by id Software and is the prequel to the 2016 DOOM Eternal. The third installment in the series will throw players into the blood-stained boots of the Doom Slayer in a never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.
South of Midnight by Compulsion Games will likely feature new scenes and a deeper dive into the story. Players will step into the role of Hazel and explore the mythos and confront mysterious creatures inspired by Southern Folklore to unravel her family’s hidden past.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by Sandfall Interactive is a debut RPG that promises a fresh perspective to the genre. At Developer Direct, the team will share more details about the game’s creation and how they plan to deliver an incredible story in a gorgeous fantasy world.
