After multiple delays and mounting controversies, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows got a March 20, 2025 release date—but so has the knockoff of the game titled Yasuke Simulator. The rip-off listed on Steam was developed and published by HistoryAccurateDevelopers.
Both the game and developer’s names are a slap on Ubisoft’s face. Ubisoft has previously claimed they make their Assassin’s Creed games as historically accurate as possible. However, trouble started when the true identity of the protagonist in Shadows came under scrutiny.

“Step into 1579 as Yasuke, the African samurai, and join Oda Nobunaga in his quest to untie Japan!” read the knockoff’s official blurb. “Master precise katana combat, uncover secret gear, and unleash your ancestral power in this historically inspired action-packed journey through feudal Japan”.
Unlike the original game which requires high hardware configuration on PC (including NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti and 16 GB of RAM), Yasuke Simulator will work perfectly on GTX 1070 and will only occupy 10 GB of storage space.
It was also disclosed that some audio and graphics of the Yasuke Simulator were created with the help of AI. In the “About this game” section on Steam, Yasuke Simulator wrote something that we found extremely hilarious—and a total mockery of Ubisoft.
They said, “The Yasuke Simulator team has done its research and went above and beyond to provide a totally historically accurate depiction of Feudal Japan with Yasuke the Samurai”.
Talking about historical accuracy, the knockoff introduces firearms and cars which clearly is a parody of anything they said about historical accuracy. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is arguably Ubisoft’s most controversial Assassin’s Creed game yet with many already predicting that it would be a commercial disaster.

Interestingly, against the naysayers, Ubisoft recently claimed that pre-orders for Shadows are strong ahead of the March 20 launch. The disclosure was made at Ubisoft’s latest quarterly financial results.
